The
Michael A. Fiorelli Foundation for Esophageal Cancer
Awareness, Inc. is pleased to announce an important,
new partnership.
Early in 2009, the Foundation became aware
of an opportunity to partner with the Baltimore Sports
Legends Museum in a renovation of the Baltimore Ravens
exhibit. Upon completion of the due diligence process,
the Board of Directors voted to enter into an agreement
with the Museum, to sponsor the exhibit’s renovation.
In doing so, the Foundation took the first visible step
toward achieving our second goal: “To work cooperatively
with other non-profit organizations and entities in
support of our mission to disseminate information on
EC through public and private health venues.”
The Sports Legends Museum is operated
under the auspices of the Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation,
Inc., a not-for-profit educational institution dedicated
to preserving and perpetuating the historic legacy of
local and regional sports teams at the professional,
collegiate and amateur levels. Our sponsorship of the
renovation enabled the Museum to update and improve
the gallery with current team history, to enhance the
audio and visual elements, and to triple the number
of artifacts on dis-play. Of greater importance to the
Foundation, our sponsorship of the Ravens exhibit provides
a spectacular venue for the Foundation to share its
message about EC with, on average, 70,000 visitors per
year.
The renovated exhibit, which opened to
the public on October 12, 2009, includes more current
Ravens history and artifacts previously unseen. On display
is the story of Michael’s involvement with the
team, his #22 jersey, and the game ball from the team’s
first win, on 12/1/96, at the old Memorial Stadium,
which was given to Mike in appreciation for his hard
work that first season. With that as the intro to Michael
Fiorelli, the story of his esophageal cancer is told
via video, and informational cards on EC are made available.
The Michael A. Fiorelli Foundation for
Esophageal Cancer Awareness, Inc. is honored to share
this venue with the Baltimore Ravens, and to be part
of Baltimore history as it unfolds over the next several
years. More importantly, we are grateful for the opportunity
to share the message and the mission of our Foundation
with the thousands of visitors, who will visit the Museum
each year. Michael loved working with the Ravens. There
could not be a more fitting or appropriate place for
us to share Michael’s message about EC, and, thus
fulfill one of his last wishes.
